HIDDEN JOB MARKET SECRETS

Job Search Techniques for Career Changers, Re-entry Candidates and Industry Switchers

by Debra Feldman, JobWhiz, Executive Talent Agent

In a traditional sense, career change brings a new job which often entails transferring to another industry or switching functional roles/responsibilities. Re-entering the workforce following a hiatus is another type of familiar career change. In the past five or so years, the concept of redefining one’s career has broadened to include customizing or adjusting employment terms like a different commuting pattern, work location, authority or responsibility, productivity expectations, days and hours, emphasis or de-emphasis on certain tasks and activities, converting a hobby into a paid position, and more. Older workers make up one of the groups commonly embracing career change and making shifts.  Those individuals who in the past might would have retired and been excluded from the job market today might think in terms of effecting a “career shift” such as downsizing responsibilities, right-sizing a role or joining a smaller, flatter, not-for-profit, etc. organization.

Career changers and career shifters are pioneers in a modern job market that emerged from the Great Recession. This webinar will focus on

  • Who in a new field can be most helpful to accelerate your job search
  • How to Network Purposefully™ to build the right contacts in a new industry
  • What you need to know about today’s job market if you are changing or shifting careers
  • Where to find the hidden or unadvertised jobs if you are a career changer
  • When is the best time to make a career change to maximize your value

Debra Feldman is the JobWhiz, a nationally recognized executive talent agent. Forbes called her Matchmaker: Part sleuth. Part networker.  Uniquely, she first develops the most effective go-to-market job search campaign roadmap and then achieves an almost 99% success rate by personally cultivating networking connections for her clients to source unadvertised senior executive job leads in the hidden job market, a clearly competitive advantage in today’s environment. Debra relies on her extraordinary ability to find hidden opportunities, promote the creation of original roles designed for JobWhiz clients, obtain coveted recommendations, eliminate corporate gatekeepers and remove barriers preventing job searching progress in order to accelerate campaign results and produce smooth, swift executive career transitions.  She specializes in re-entry candidates, industry switchers, career changers, and those whose diverse backgrounds rarely attract employers’ attention.  Those who are not a recruiter’s perfect candidate are among Debra’s favored clients.

Since 2000, Debra has personally promoted her clients to carefully screened hiring authorities, including C-level leaders, owners and board members and arranged exploratory one-on-one meetings, often on a confidential basis, that unearth immediate new challenges and establish lifetime referral relationships. These connections are career insurance for life, targeted networking contacts for both parties that yield continuous, often unexpected leads to more career opportunities.

Debra is both extremely strategic and hands on. Her track record reflects her practical skills: she professionally executes job search activities very efficiently, gets extraordinary results and spares busy clients from embarrassing cold calls. She makes sure her clients are the first to know about plum, unadvertised job leads and propels them into the first choice candidate slot for the positions they want.  An insightful SWOT analysis coupled with networking purposefully, her trademarked process, bypasses human and automated gatekeepers to dramatically accelerate a swifter, smoother landing.  Not one to rely only on traditional methods or to be limited by time or place, she deftly leverages social media to market her clients, build reputations, engender more trust and enhance deal flow.
