The new 11-acre recycling center on the Brooklyn waterfront opened early this year to process the majority of New York City’s curbside metal, glass and plastic recyclables. An architectural keeper – designed by Selldorf Architects, the facility won an Award for Excellence in Design – the plant is an example of sustainable design, from the use of recycled steel and glass to a solar panel roof and storm water management system. By using waterways to transport materials, the new plant will avoid 150,000 annual truck trips, thereby having a positive impact on street congestion and the environment.
Learn about this facility’s features and the business of recycling during our private tour of the SIMS Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility. This event is part of the MAKING GREEN FROM GREEN series. Networking reception with pastries and refreshments to follow.
