Once you own the business, the real work begins. In this session, Robin Mohapatra of Relay Investments shares the operator's side of ETA, drawing on his own seven years running a company he acquired through the search fund model. He will walk through the first 100 days as a new CEO, how to work productively with your board, and what the operator journey actually feels like from the inside, including the surprises, the hard calls, and the parts that only make sense once you are in the seat.
Robin is an Operating Partner at Relay, where he focuses on searcher and CEO mentorship, strategic advisory, and board work across companies including Libnova, Greenback Expat Tax Services, Forio, No-IP, and EMAN. He joined Relay in 2025 after acquiring, leading as CEO, and successfully exiting the NCFDD, a company he sourced himself. Under his leadership, the NCFDD grew from 50 to 350 university members and scaled to 250 employees and contractors across the U.S. and Canada. Before his search, Robin spent 10 years in financial services at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup in New York and London, and he began his career as a research assistant studying volcanoes in Antarctica. He holds an M.S. in Management from the Stanford GSB and B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University.
Whether you are years away from a close or already picturing your first day as CEO, you will leave with a grounded view of what it takes to lead a company you just bought.
