GBC AVP Applications

Interested in joining The Green Business Club board? We'd love to have you! We're looking for AVPs across our 5 main pillars:
- Careers - Collaborate with the CMC to support and grow CBS’ sustainability recruitment pipeline for both summer and full time positions. Activities include education, corporate relations, mentorship, alumni relations & J-Term programming.
- Community - Foster a strong network of students interested in the sustainability sector through social and educational events, including 1:1 coffee chats, speaker series, site visits and restaurant outings.
- Treks - Organize two incredible offsite events, providing students with the opportunity to meet leaders within the green business community and learn about initiatives taking place across the US.
- Marketing - Flex your marketing skills to help the GBC grow and reach a wider student base, both on and off campus.
- Finance - Practice your financial planning ability and collaborate with other board members to ensure that the GBC can have the greatest impact possible.

What in the world is Climate Tech?
In this edition of our newsletter, we feature useful resources to introduce GBC members to the Climate Tech landscape. In the coming editions, we hope to provide a deep-dive into some of these climate areas. Reach out to us if you’re interested in contributing!
Climate Tech is not just a theme, but a whole industry. CTVC helpfully breaks down the vast landscape into seven climate verticals that encompass 60+ sectors and 250+ technologies helping us mitigate, adapt, monitor, remove, and regenerate in our warmer and weirder world.
Since the start of 2020, ~2,500 climate tech companies have raised $117B of venture funding across 3,332 deals, with cumulative industry growth averaging ~30% each quarter. The “Big Three”: Transportation, Energy, and Food & Land Use, have historically made up the lionshare of blockbuster rounds.

Climate Week NYC: Amazon Economics
September 21st | 6:00 - 8:30 pm | Register

Join us for this two-part event which will comprise an academic session that will discuss the role of the Amazon and how reforestation can be a cost-effective solution to capturing significant carbon emissions; and a policy session which will uncover innovative solutions through public policy to combat deforestation and protect the native vegetation of the Amazon Forest to reduce its tipping point. After presentations, participants will be able to ask questions and engage with the speakers through a lively debate.
Climate Week NYC: Climate Data + Modelling for the Financial Sector

Featuring CBS professor Vanessa Burbano, get introduced to the suite of climate modeling and data visualization tools and resources currently being developed by the Learning the Earth with Artificial Intelligence & Physics (LEAP) team. During the workshop, participants will learn about climate data + modeling; engage in hands-on demonstrations and begin to identify how LEAP’s resources can address their needs.

This year's hackathon enables developers, creatives, and entrepreneurs from all over the NYC and the tri-state area to co-create solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing us today. Go from an idea to a working proof of concept within a weekend! This year, teams will have the opportunity to partner with nonprofits to help respond to climate change.
McCombs School of Business: 19th Annual National Energy Finance Challenge

The National Energy Finance Challenge (NEFC) competition challenges teams from the country’s top MBA programs to address real-world finance issues relevant to today’s dynamic energy industry. Students receive a case from Chevron, create a strategy, and then present their solutions to judges representing multiple facets of the energy finance landscape.
This is also a recruiting event that matches energy companies and investment banks with top energy-focused MBA candidates. Coffee chat opportunities and networking events are integrated into the agenda.
