• Programming Guidelines

For an event/program/workshop to be considered part of PPIL, please adhere to the following guidelines.

    1. Program is being planned and led by a recognized CBS student organization, Centers and Programs, or Academic Division. (Please note that Conferences, CBS Matters and Ask Me Anything events will not be approved as PPIL events. This is based on the reviews and feedback from the student population)
    2. Program specifically address no more than two essential inclusive leadership skills:
      • Understanding Identity and Perspective Taking:  Recognizing identity as it relates to oneself and others (i.e. culture, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status) and understand how this affects and influences one's worldview and perspective.
      • Managing Intercultural Dialogue: Communicating across differing perspectives in order to create a shared understanding of a topic or idea.
      • Mitigating Bias and Prejudice: Recognizing the effects of bias (i.e., an inclination or preference for something, usually in a close-minded or unfair manner) and prejudice (i.e., the affective component of bias, which include negative feelings typically based on unsupported generalizations or stereotypes).
      • Creating an Inclusive Environment: Creating environments in which members of any group can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued to fully participate. An inclusive and welcoming climate embraces differences and offers respect in words and actions for all social categories.
      • Addressing Systemic Inequity: Recognizing, defining, and dismantling the structures, procedures, and policies which perpetuate the unequal treatment of a category of people in relation to others.
    3. Program specifically addresses tangible learning outcomes aligned with the identified essential inclusive leadership skills. Please see PPIL Essential Inclusive Leadership Skills Definitions and Learning Outcomes under Event Planning Resources below.
    4. Program is co-curricular in nature, aligned with the curriculum but not being administered as part of a class or in exchange for class credit.
    5. Program duration of at least 45-60 minutes.
    6. Program can be administered in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid modality.
    7. Programs are encouraged to accommodate as many participants as possible, but can be offered for a targeted audience including students within a particular academic program or student group.
    8. Programs are encouraged to record the event in order to make it accessible to all participants to refer back to afterwards.
