Theory is useful, but real deals are where the lessons live. Over lunch, Daniel Chen of Highland Creek Partners walks through successful investment cases from his career, unpacking what made them work, how value was actually created, and what searchers can take away from deals that delivered strong returns. Expect specific stories rather than abstractions, including the decisions, the operating moves, and the moments that turned a good business into a great outcome.
Daniel is a Partner at Highland Creek Partners. He comes from a family of entrepreneurs and has spent most of his career investing in private companies and small businesses. He previously managed Technology and Healthcare investments in private and private equity backed companies at Franklin Templeton. Before that, he was part of the leadership team at OurTime, a private equity backed online dating platform, where he drove corporate strategy and M&A, helped double revenue over two years, and led the eventual sale to Match Group that generated a 3x MOIC for investors. Daniel also brings private equity experience from American Capital, later acquired by Ares Management, where he focused on small and mid cap opportunities. He holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Come for the lunch, stay for the case studies, and leave with a sharper sense of what a winning deal looks like in practice.
