    Designing a PPIL Event

    Submission Guidelines

Pease allow up to 1-week review time after submission to receive feedback!

    • Event is being planned and led by a recognized CBS student organization, Centers and Programs, or Academic Division (Please note that CBS Matters, Ask Me Anything, Treks, and Conferences will not be approved as PPIL events).
    • Event specifically addresses tangible learning outcomes aligned with up to two (2) inclusive leadership skills.
      • Exploring Identity and Perspective Taking- Recognizing identity as it relates to oneself and others (i.e. culture, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status) and understanding how this affects and influences one’s worldview and perspective.
      • Understanding Bias and Prejudice- Recognizing the effects of bias (i.e. an inclination, favorable or unfavorable, toward something, usually considered unreasoned) and prejudice (i.e. the affective component of bias, which include negative feelings typically based on unsupported generalizations or stereotypes) on one’s perspective and society.
      • Engaging in Dialogue- Learning to communicate across differing perspectives to build a shared understanding of a topic or idea.
      • Addressing Inequities- Recognizing, defining, and dismantling the structures, procedures, and policies which perpetuate the unequal treatment of a category of people in relation to others.
      • Creating Inclusive Environments- Building environments in which members of any group can feel welcomed, respected, supported, and empowered to fully participate.
    • Event is co-curricular in nature, aligned with the curriculum but not being administered as part of a class or in exchange for class credit.
    • Event is aligned to student common hours (list out hours)
    • Event will be hosted in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid modality.
    • Event will be introduced as part of PPIL and will clearly communicate with participants what skills it will address.

    Event Considerations

    • Events are encouraged to accommodate as many participants as possible, but can be offered for a targeted audience including students within a particular academic program or student group.
    • Organizers are encouraged to record the event in order to make it accessible to all participants to refer back to.
  • Attendance Tracking

Once an event is "PPIL-Approved" and appears on the PPIL Events Calendar, your event will automatically be included in the weekly events newsletter sent to all-students every Monday. If event organizers have questions, please contact the PPIL Team at ppil@gsb.columbia.edu.

You can find comprehensive support and guidance for the CampusGroups platform here.

    Attendance Tracking

In order for students to receive PPIL credit for attending your event, their attendance must be tracked and they must be "Checked-In" on CampusGroups accordingly. Once a student is "Checked-In", their PPIL attendance will automatically be updated on their student profile.

Registration and attendance tracking can be done easily on CampusGroups. Please review these guides for the various ways you can track attendance:
